Abstract :
In this lecture, recent advances in the computation of the information-theoretic capacity of magnetic recording channels are reviewed. Capacity estimates are compared to densities achieved using advanced coding and detection methods. Extensions to more realistic channel models, as well as to exploratory storage technologies are also considered.
