  • Abstract
This paper presents a new bi-directional inverter, which can be used for both grid-connection and stand-alone modes. To increase the efficiency and reliability of renewable energy source inverter, a single-staged inverter topology is proposed, which utilizes single power processing stage to output rectified sinusoid voltage. Another low frequency unfolding circuit inverts it into sinusoid voltage. To handle the reactive power flow of load, a reverse DC/DC converter is added. Compared with the conventional cyclo-converter, the new topology are using power diodes as rectifiers on the secondary side of transformer, which will greatly reduce the cost of system and cause much less ringing voltage across the diodes. This topology demonstrates advantage on the expandable modularized system structure
