Abstract :
Deals with the analysis of the interarea mode phenomenon in stressed power systems following large disturbances. It has been shown that the interarea mode phenomenon occurs as a result of a nonlinear interaction of the natural modes of oscillation in the system. Normal forms of vector fields are used to determine the interacting modes of oscillation and to identify the nature and characteristics of the interarea mode phenomenon. A numerical example for a one-machine infinite bus system is included
