Abstract
Approaches to pipelined implementation of infinite impulse response (IIR) filters for video applications are presented and evaluated. Polyphase decomposition techniques are applied to increase the maximum achievable sampling rate through pipelining. LDI structures, derived through a specific synthesis procedure, are assessed as an alternative to direct implementation of the recursive part, with regard to finite precision properties. The LDI structure belongs to the general class of digital filters that inherit their good finite precision properties in the digital domain from their analog ancestors. Architectural alternatives for VLSI implementation of these filters as hardwired datapaths are evaluated. An example of application to video sampling rate conversion is presented
