Abstract :
A portable system has been developed for the detection of neutrons. The sensing element is a silicon radiation detector with a Boron-based converter material that detects neutrons with the 10B(n, α)7 Li reaction. The detector response has been simulated with the MCNPX Monte-Carlo software and the detector geometry has been optimized. A portable readout electronics has been built to operate the detector. The system can be used as well for other types of radiation such as alpha particles, X-rays and electrons.
