Abstract :
Heat transfer within and from windings has been analysed using dimensionless constants and spreadsheet calculations. This has enabled predictions of thermal behaviour when changes in the geometry or number of conductors in a group alters. The effects of air voids and layers, coatings and insulation, material degradation and consequences of parallel and perpendicular conduction can also be analysed. The results are compared with those obtained using more sophisticated CAD tools
