Abstract
Although technology itself cannot be defined as multimedia, it does form a very important part in the development of multimedia systems. In order to understand how multimedia may be used for information management it is useful to first look at the various components of a typical system. Generally speaking, a multimedia system may be broken down into information sources; hardware and software platform; different media; the application; tools for creating the application; and user interface considerations. If multimedia may be defined at all, it must be in relation to the effective communication and access of information. In short, multimedia could be defined as a tool for information management
