Abstract
The author discusses the experience of teaching a course on the architecture, interfacing and programming of DSP devices. The context in which the course is presented and the overall organisation of the course are described. Key features of DSP devices appropriate to highlighting on such courses are reviewed. Consideration of various technical parameters requiring reference to DSP theory and digital systems design is set against consideration of the major engineering parameter-cost. Decisions arising from these considerations relate directly to particular applications and attention is drawn to sales techniques before concluding with a look forward
