Abstract
High voltage transmission systems are increasingly stressed because of the increase in demand and because of restrictions on new power lines due to environmental and regulatory concerns. But bulk power transfers and access by third parties are on the increase in highly interconnected, meshed transmission networks. Here, the author presents some considerations for the planning of flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS), which can be used to relieve the above problems
