Abstract :
Following the restructuring of the UK electricity supply industry, the planning of generation is no longer centrally coordinated with the planning of transmission in England and Wales. This is demanding flexible and imaginative approaches from NGC transmission system designers in order to enable the company to meet its statutory obligations. The author restates NGC´s statutory obligations, summarises NGC´s post-privatisation experience, and finally describes how they take account of uncertainty and conflicting objectives when developing the transmission system
