Abstract :
The design process falls into the problem-solving method in which it involves an intensive way of searching and matching that generates a large solution space. In that sense and inspired on the Kryssanov´s design model, this paper introduces a novel design model based on genetic algorithms that aims to achieve an optimal solution taking into account the design objectives, the conceptual design, the functional design, and the structural design. In order to validate the proposed model, a proposed system programmed on the Lab VIEW platform was developed and tested. A case study of designing chairs was considered. Experimental results show that the proposed model can achieve high qualities to perform well-designs and particularly, the design of chairs can be reached faster than traditional design models or the Kryssanov´s model.
