Abstract
The author defines the term `accreditation´ which is used in its SARTOR meaning, and is concerned with the quality and relevance of an educational or training programme, as far as it affects criteria for membership and registration. In the language of National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs), accreditation is the process by which NCVQ endorses a qualification prepared by an awarding body as legitimately representing an employment need, certifying that it meets the NCVQ criteria, and placing it at a level on the NCVQ framework
