Abstract :
Growth rates for the two-stream instability for a heavy-ion beam propagating in a collisionless plasma are analyzed analytically and numerically using particle-in-cell simulations. Good agreement between the analytic and simulation results is found for a wide range of parameters consistent with heavy-ion driven inertia! fusion energy chamber designs
