Abstract
Prior to the white paper which resulted in the UK electricity industry being restructured, newly regulated and partially privatised, the electricity supply industry and the city had little direct knowledge or understanding of each other. Privatisation has fundamentally changed this, although the relationship and understanding between industry and City remains as immature as the industry structure itself. The future prosperity of the industry is likely to depend upon the ability of management teams throughout the industry to identify and pursue a vision which balances the aspirations and the concerns of all major interest groups-whether directors, employees, shareholders, customers, competitors, commentators, regulators or politicians. The author discusses the effects of privatisation on the city and the structure of the industry
