Abstract
Consideration is given to the use of real-time distributed databases in naval command systems. Such systems are required to operate in environments characterized by high data rates and there are requirements for fast response times, high reliability and high processing rates. In addition, many users need concurrent access to the same data. In order to illustrate approaches which can be taken to design and build systems to meet such requirements, a specific naval command system, which has been successfully built, is considered
