Abstract :
An investigation is made into how to automatically derive a meaningful classification of words from ordinary text on the assumption that words of similar role usually appear in similar contexts. The authors propose novel patterns in text which derive good contextual information. They describe methods by which the contextual information can be used to classify like words together. Methods to describe how various empirical classifications can then be evaluated are also presented
