The development and manufacture of Networker One trains

The author gives an overview of why and how the re-equipping of Network SouthEast South Eastern Division rolling stock has been achieved. A new range of passenger rolling stock (both DMU and EMU), for intensive commuter services into and from Central London, has been created, and Networker One is the EMU version of that massive development strategy. Each Networker One train is a 4-car unit, powered at nominally 750 V DC third rail supply, and each vehicle has a nominal length of 20 m, 2.82 m wide maximum, and 81.9 m overall length of 4-car units, capable of coupling to form 12 car trains
