Abstract
A study of the effect of surface topographic variations on several DC Earth resistivity arrays is presented. A modified 2.5-D finite element method (FEM) modelling scheme was used to examine the performance of several survey arrays (dipole-dipole, Wenner, pole-pole, pole-dipole and Square) on buried features below a range of different topographical terrain contexts, such as valleys, hills and steep slopes. In general, the results indicate that, for resistivity profile applications, “local” four-electrode arrays are less sensitive to terrain topography variations than arrays that use remote probes
