Abstract
In this paper, we present bit error performance for coded Gaussian minimum shift keying (GMSK). We consider the case where the communication channel consists of one or more partial-processing satellite links. The satellite on-board processor can demodulate, repacketize and remodulate the incoming data prior to transmission. We model the system by a cascade of binary symmetric channels followed by an additive white Gaussian noise channel. We investigate the performance of a turbo-code with two 16-state component codes and convolutional codes for this application through simulation. The interleaver design for turbo-codes is essential and we consider dithered relative prime interleavers, which have excellent flare performance.
