Abstract
There is a severe shortage of RF design engineers with the necessary skills and experience to design the products required in the fast moving world of personal mobile communications. Although radio systems engineers are in short supply, the most acute shortage is being experienced by the manufacturers of base stations and radio terminals. Education and training needs are discussed and increased cooperation between industry, universities and other institutions is recommended
