Abstract
Electronic equipment connected via cables leaving the relative safety of a building´s equipotential zone, is vulnerable to damage from lightning transients. The purpose of this paper is to review the nature of the threat, how it may be satisfactorily dealt with, and provide some useful references. The importance of the method of installation and cabling is highlighted in terms of basic electrical theory, in the hope that an appreciation of the underlying principles will help the installer coping with practical problems
