Abstract
Presents an introduction on how parallel processing techniques can be utilised to achieve fault tolerance, focusing mainly on the fault detection aspects. The model-based approach is adopted to perform the fault diagnosis by making use of an observer and studying the residuals. If the magnitude of these exceed a specified threshold then a fault is deemed to have occurred and needs to be isolated. Discussions on how fault tolerant state feedback designs can be implemented in a fairly straightforward manner via parallel processing techniques are illustrated
