Abstract :
An optimal controller is proposed for use in a brushless DC (BLDC) motor velocity control system. This controller serves two purposes, namely, to remove the nonlinearity in the BLDC motor and to reduce the torque ripples. The controller is operated as a regulator with nonzero set points. Considerable computational effort is saved when viewing the controller as an infinite time regulator. Simulation results show that the torque ripple can be reduced by a factor of one-tenth as compared to cases without the optimal controller
