  • Abstract
The authors present different methods of voltage regulation of self excited induction generator (SEIG) using passive elements. Both 3-phase and 2-phase SEIG have been considered. For the 3-phase SEIG system incorporating a combination of shunt and series capacitors has been suggested. Both theoretical and experimental analysis of this system have been carried out and the results presented to assess its performance. The performance is shown to be sensitive to load power factor. Voltage regulation schemes for a specially designed single-phase SEIG reported earlier using passive elements are investigated. The passive elements include series capacitor, saturable core reactor (SCR) and constant voltage transformer (CVT). Through this study, the practical viability of SEIG for stand alone power generation has been evaluated, by explaining the self regulating features of these elements
