Abstract
The paper shows that interbar currents do exist in double-cage induction motors. This has been shown theoretically and by measurement. An expression has been derived to describe the distribution of interbar currents in the double-cage rotor. Although the motor tested was not ideal for the measurements performed, it still provided valid experimental results. This work also showed that the determination of the contact resistances between bars is the most difficult parameter to determine in the calculation of interbar currents. In most modern motors, however, there is good contact between the bars and the surrounding core and reasonable assumptions can be made about the contact resistances
