Abstract
A method of calculating the iron losses in a switched reluctance motor has been presented. The method is based on a reconstruction of the flux density distribution in spatial and time co-ordinates. The iron losses are calculated in different elements of the geometry giving the iron loss distribution in the geometry. The validity of the method is tested by comparing the results of the calculations with accurately performed loss measurements. Taking into consideration that a very simple hysteresis and eddy current model is used and that the end effects have been neglected, the calculated results agree well with the measurements
