Abstract :
Much of the UK DTI´s recent Action for Engineering initiative was aimed at developing engineers´ contribution to wealth creation. A key slogan used was “from the classroom to the board room”. The TI Group are interested in developing their graduate and management resource as a whole, not just their engineers. However, as they are an engineering business, a significant number of their high potential young managers are engineers. This paper describes how the TI Group have tried to identify the “success profile” of someone who they believe can make it to the top. This profile includes personality traits and some relevant skill areas. For TI, this could amount to a definition of what they expect from their engineering management
