Abstract :
The author examines the requirements for computer support for filter design, filter evaluation, digital filtering, and FFT-based (fast-Fourier-transform-based) signal processing. Essential operations, data manipulations, and operating sequences are identified by considering the modus operandi of an experienced practitioner over a range of problems. An operating model analogous to a scientific calculator is established. Data-structure and data-flow models are built. The principal architectural features of the package are described. Special features are a high degree of openness, an extensive range of basic operations, an environment allowing low- or high-level operation, and a comprehensive set of s- and z-plane linear systems operations
