Abstract
In theUK offshore industry there has been an increase, over recent years, in the number of satellite platforms that are fed from mother platforms by submarine power cables of significant length. On such systems electrical resonances caused by the combination of submarine cable capacitance and mother platform power transformer and generator inductance can occur. When combined with harmonic currents produced by power converters on the system, excessive voltage distortion levels can be generated. The authors described the analysis of harmonic distortion on Total Oil Marine´s North Alwyn performance together with the new Dunbar platform. The Dunbar platform is fed by two 22.5 km submarine cables from the North Alwyn platform
