Abstract :
Pointing and measurement specifications are generally formulated within a statistical framework, requiring compliance to be demonstrated using statistically justifiable techniques. The application of Bayesian MAP in the manner described appears to provide a justifiable method for the inclusion of measurement data (and errors) into the probability density function assignment of a component error. In particular, the method allows for the treatment of errors where data is sparse or not readily interpretable in the correct statistical fashion. These ideas, coupled with other modifications in the new error handbook, appear to provide a framework for the production of realistic, statistically justifiable and unambiguous spacecraft pointing performance estimates
