Abstract :
A basis is established for an efficient formulation of converter dynamical models in their closed-loop operation. Difficulties in applying small-signal models are illustrated for the power supply studied. It is then shown that rather than ignoring the effect of the duty ratio dynamics, it is possible to derive a consistent simple model for analysis and control design. A second-order nonlinear model is obtained that fully captures long-term dynamics of a typical power supply. The model could serve as a basis for identifying typical instability regions of the power supply´s operation (negative resistance), and for a control design by which instabilities are avoided.<>
