Abstract :
We report on laser actions of a new ytterbium-doped oxyorthosilicate Gd2SiO5 (GSO). In the continuous-wave operation, Yb:GSO provided 2.7 W near 1094 nm. In mode-locked operation, a maximum average power of 638 mW was obtained.
