Abstract :
It is shown how power loss in a push-pull current-fed converter for a high-voltage power supply increases markedly as the distributed capacitance in the high-voltage transformer increases. The relationship between distributed capacitance and power loss in buck mode is analyzed, and a novel design method for reducing the converter power loss is proposed. By decreasing the transformer core permeability to approximately one-seventh that of conventional high-voltage transformers, the converter power loss can be reduced by approximately one-third.<>
