Abstract :
Mammography is the most widely used and the most efficient method for detection of breast cancer. In which, calcifications are the most important signs of breast cancers. In order to help the radiologist read the mammograms more efficiently, detection of calcifications becomes a significant problem for the computer-aid diagnosis. A novel method of detecting calcifications from mammogram images based on wavelet transformation and Sobel detector, is introduced in this paper. A wavelet based image enhancement technique and the Sobel gradient operator are used consequently, to distinguish the calcifications from the breast tissues
