Development and field experience with an HV-cable monitoring system

The authors outline how, thanks to the development of a newly distributed temperature step-sensor, the thermal knowledge of HV cables may be improved, notably at the level of localized overloading in urban networks. The integration of such sensors in a cable monitoring system, including the measurement of various electrical parameters, allows the user to improve the availability of his power links and to reinforce the security as well as the flexibility of management actions, especially in the case of disturbances
