Polymeric insulated high voltage cables and accessories in London´s distribution system: a review of design, installation and performance

Although, in relation to international usage, London´s experience may be considered to be limited, variations in cable and accessories design philosophy have been produced by the UK manufacturers. The authors review the HV system design requirements for polymeric insulated cables and the economic factors influencing the type adopted, summaries the cable, joint and termination variations and the circuits installed to date in London. The performance of these circuits is briefly discussed and attempts are made to assess the likely future direction to be taken by London in respect of polymeric insulated HV cables
