  • Abstract
The need to minimise disturbance to the environment is an important consideration in the choice between overhead and underground transmission systems. The authors consider developments in the design of cable systems and their materials (paper, XLPE, polypropylene laminate). They demonstrate the choices available to the circuit designer and the improved environmental acceptability of underground transmission circuits
