Abstract
Describes the mechanisms which support remote object access in the Renaissance distributed object-oriented operating system. The system allows applications to access disparate systems without making demands on the distributed systems themselves. The authors use object signatures to describe all the operations available to clients of distributed objects, along with an attribute mechanism which allows them to specify additional semantic information about objects in order to improve network efficiency. They map this information to existing languages via a stub compiler technique
