Abstract
A number of radio relay and fibre optic systems are required to be remotely controlled and monitored. Year by year customer´s requirements are becoming more and more demanding in order to achieve an effective supervision of the network. With SDH equipment these requirements are becoming even more complex to be satisfied. The paper illustrates Siemens Telecomunicazioni´s approach to provide a satisfactory solution to customer´s needs on this topic. In particular, after introducing the main characteristics of present supervisory systems for PDH networks are the way to reach a future fully standardised SDH management, an SDH radio equipment is described from the management point of view. The ability of the new equipment generation to be adopted by the old generation of supervisory systems and then to evolve towards a new management philosophy with just software enhancements and minor hardware improvements, is also illustrated. The process for the integration of radio and fibre Optic Equipment of different vendors in a single management network is described and a step by step approach explained
