Abstract
The paper outlines applications for Sub STM-1 radio systems within the BT United Kingdom network and provides information for discussion within the ITU and ETSI forums towards standardisation of SDH systems below STM-0 (VC-3). It outlines the benefits of functional integration of SDH radio systems and add drop multiplexers (ADM). It also provides a brief overview of BT´s UK synchronous transmission network and identifies potential applications for sub STM-1 systems. The paper discusses means of achieving very high availability and reliability standards for business customers, including duplication of serving sites links to customers premises, dual parenting from different serving sites, or via parallel access to different outer core rings. Finally, it gives a summary of typical system parameters for combined SDH Access Radio and multiplexer systems at STM-0 (VC-3 or 21*2 Mbit/s) with options for different types of interfaces
