Abstract :
The authors investigate the effect of a nonlinear load on the parameters of a dynamic compensator for reactive power modulation using a static VAr compensator. The values of gain and zero of the dynamic compensator, which assign the same complex-conjugate eigenvalues corresponding to electromechanical oscillations, are plotted at different values of load characteristics. Linear system simulations show that a dynamic compensator designed according to a constant impedance load model significantly improves the system damping. However, it may reduce the system damping at a constant active power load
