Abstract :
A simplified time-domain analysis based on the equivalent circuit, differential equations and the Laplace transform is presented for the calculation of the starting current of an induction motor. The model provides a closed-form solution to the transient starting inrush current. The solution is realized by the superposition of natural and forced responses of the starting current components. The calculated transient components are displayed for natural, forced, and complete responses. Experimental verification of the results was carried out on a 2 hp, 220 V, 7 A, 3600 r/min, wye-connected, three-phase induction motor. There is a reasonable agreement between the calculated and the measured transient current values
