Abstract
The paper describes the development and performance of a 333 Hz, 2350 V inverter controlling a two pole cage induction motor. This high speed machine (20000 RPM) is directly coupled to a centrifugal compressor and the shaft system is supported on four axial electromagnetic bearings. A consortium of five European companies combined to develop the complete integrated compressor drive and funding was provided in part by a Brite Euram research grant from the European Community
