Abstract :
The use of programmable controllers, personal computers, and dedicated host computers for automated control and monitoring is discussed. Applications and benefits are considered limited only by the awareness and education of engineering and management personnel. The author suggests that production monitoring be focused on reporting the exceptions in problem areas, and then on using these reports to solve or prevent problems. Production control by computers offers the capability of using feedback from all control loops to produce the best-quality product
