Abstract :
Caches have an increasing impact on overall performance because of the growing gap between CPU cycle times and memory access times. Therefore, improving the cache behavior is essential to obtain good execution speeds. With the advent of cache hints in EPIC architectures, the compiler has the means to steer the cache replacement directly and to improve the cache behavior. In this work, based on a profiling scheme of the OPT cache replacement, a method to generate best static cache hints(BSH) is presented. Based on evaluation using SPEC2000INT benchmarks, we compares our approach with other standard cache replacements such as OPT and LRU.
