Abstract :
The problem of the transient stability improvement for a single machine infinite bus (SMIB) power system with nonlinear Static Var Compensator (SVC) controller is addressed in this paper. The SVC controller is designed by the proposed unconventional adaptive backstepping algorithm which is feasible in most of the feedback systems. This algorithm is based on the I&I adaptive stabilization of nonlinear systems with parametric uncertainties, and it is similar to the well-known adaptive backstepping/tuning function method, but differs from the parameter estimation error since it introduces a designed tunable function. The prominent feature is that the estimation error can be assigned to be the prescribed dynamics, so the asymptotical estimate of the parameter can be achieved. Using the proposed method the SVC controller takes into account the nonlinear characteristics of the SMIB power system and the uncertainty of the damping coefficient simultaneously. The results show that the proposed method performs better than the classical adaptive backstepping method and the full information control method, considering the generator rotor angle transient stability and the unknown parameter estimation performance.
