Abstract
Organizationally critical problems are often addressed by groups. GDSS have evolved to support the problem-solving processes of groups in a wide range of decision-making tasks. However, solving particularly unstructured problems (i.e. `wicked problems´) often requires creative problem solving approaches which are best executed by individuals. In fact, many aspects of group dynamics detract from, rather than enhance, creative problem solving approaches. The paper examines the concepts of creativity, group dynamics, and problem solving in order to define how a GDSS supported environment can be made more amenable to creative problem solving. Concepts of creativity, group dynamics, and problem solving are reviewed and synthesized. Recommendations for more creative GDSS environments are given, and an existing GDSS taxonomy is reviewed in light of these recommendations. Avenues for future research are suggested
