Abstract :
The authors describe how an existing multicomputer database system, known as RRDS (relational replicated database system), can be extended to support temporal databases. The tuple-versioning approach to temporal databases and a query modification scheme are used to build a TRRDS (temporal RRDS) on top of the RRDS. Seven temporal extensions are presented for the TRRDS. The modifications required to support these temporal extensions, as well as the modifications needed for standard queries, are discussed. These changes are made by the system, that is, the users can interact with the RRDS or TRRDS without being concerned about query modifications
