Abstract
A square slot antenna for harsh environment applications is proposed in this paper for its merits of wide bandwidth and survivability at high temperatures. This slot antenna is fed by a coplanar waveguide (CPW), and the wide bandwidth is realized by loading a rectangular tuning stub in the slot area. By using the robust materials of alumina and platinum as the antenna substrate and metal layer, this antenna can survive high temperatures up to 1300°C. This slot antenna is realized with a center frequency of 10.3 GHz and a fractional bandwidth of 18.8% for X-band sensor interrogation.
