Abstract
AN LSI CIRCUIT SINGLE-CHIP speech synthesizer utilizing formant parameters, consisting of a control block with the oscillator, interpolation and interface block containing a 32Kb speech parameter ROM, and digital filter block containing digital filters and a 9b D/A converter, will be described. The minimum system, consisting of the device plus a host microprocessor, allows maximum 63 message storage for selection, or a total of 12-second speech when the data rate is programmed at 2400h. The amount of speech can be unlimited by providing speech parameters externally via an on-chip 7-wod x 8b 2-port RAM. The frame period is selectable, 10 or 20ms, and the speech speed can also be specified to be slow, normal or fast.
